7º Ferrara Film Festival - Official Dates: April 2-10 2022
The seventh edition under a new wave of renewals, with a special attention to history.
The Ferrara Film Festival announces the dates of the seventh edition. The cinematic event in the Este's city will be held April 2-10 2022 and will take place, as always, exclusively "in person", following all the anti-Covid precautions that will be implemented at the time of the event. The choice was made after a careful discussion with the institutions of the Municipality of Ferrara as well as national and international partners.
"On behalf of the whole Ferrara Film Festival's team - says the festival director Maximilian Law - I am really proud to say that, despite the extremely difficult period, the editions of 2020 and 2021 were the ones that most marked the growth of our festival, especially in the national media. We rolled up our sleeves and stayed true to our belief: cinema should be experienced in the movie theater, in close contact with the public, making everything more authentic. We will put everything we learned in the past seven years into practice in 2022 with a more mature and more ambitious festival, and a decidedly improved structure ”.
During the 2021 edition, in addition to having had the honor of hosting numerous journalists from prestigious national newspapers, we were able to make use of the precious collaboration of a RAI TV crew who produced numerous TV specials on the festival, stressing the fact that Ferrara Film Festival was the first film festival in Italy, during the pandemic, to take place entirely in person: a courageous bet that proved to be a winner. In 2021 the "Hall Of Fame" of the Ferrara Film Festival was also inaugurated, where we assigned Golden Dragon career achievement awards to prestigious cinematic figures such as Mike Newell (director of "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", "Four Weddings and a Funeral "), Nastasha Kinski ("Paris, Texas "," Tess "), Bille August (director of" The House Of The Spirits "and" Les Miserables ") and Italian movie star Alessandro Haber.
Among the main new aspects of the next edition, in addition to a number of collateral events doubled compared to previous years, we introduced a new categorization of the films in competition, creating a clear and better division between commercial products and more authorial products. This will not only serve to make it clearer to the public what type of film to choose to watch, but also not to discriminate films based on their geographical origin. Films of a more commercial nature will be placed in the new category called Premiere Event, those of a more authorial nature will be placed in the category called Premiere Autore and documentaries will fall into the Premiere Docu category. The films connected with UNICEF's themes (official partner of the festival) will be part of the Premiere Unicef category and finally, the category for the films produced in Emilia-Romagna will be called Premiere Emilia-Romagna. To enhance the history of cinema, there will be a category called Premiere Retro, where special retrospectives will be dedicated to world-famous cinema figures, such as those dedicated to Mike Newell and Miranda Richardson during the 2021 edition.
Another news belongs the involvement of the splendid open spaces that the city of Ferrara offers, including squares, gardens, public courtyards with the creation of the Cine Villages. This project not only aims to better engage with the public and the city itself, but also to include a range of film-themed activities such as charitable and educational initiatives. Other activities could involve the promotion of local culinary products and fun cinematic experiences such as virtual reality and much more.
Further news on the program will be disclosed in January 2022, the line-up of the films will be presented towards the middle of February, while for the complete program and tickets pre-sales it will be necessary to wait until the beginning of March.
